The theme of the upcoming two-day fall 1994 CFRI Conference is "Cystic Fibrosis in the 90's: A Whole New Era." The conference is scheduled for September 24th and 25th at the Syntex Conference Center in Palo Alto, California.
The conference will open with a panel discussion titled "Current Basic CF Research." The panelists include Dr. Jeffrey Wine, Dr. Dieter Gruenert, and Dr. Paul Quinton. Afternoon seminars include talks on "Relationships and Sexuality Among Adults Having CF and Partners" by Barbara Palys, who has CF, and her husband, J.P. Palys; and "Coping with a Chronically Ill Child" by Judith Larsen, Ph.D. Small group discussions will follow. On Saturday evening we will be hosting an optional catered dinner.
On Sunday there will be a panel discussion on "Current Directions of Clinical Research in Cystic Fibrosis." The panelists include Dr. Steven Shak, the discoverer of DNase (Pulmozyme), Dr. Robert Bocian and Dr. Giulio Barbero. Afternoon panelists and topics include Dr. Laura Bachrach, who will present information on "CF and Osteoporosis, Diabetes and Nutrition;" Dr. Margaret Delano, who will discuss "Cystic Fibrosis and Cross Infection Issues;" and Dr. Guilio Barbero, who will present data on "Gastrointestinal Function and Gastroesophageal Reflux in Cystic Fibrosis."
This conference includes basic CF research, clinical updates and the psycho-social issues of dealing with CF. Time has been allotted for small group discussions to foster an atmosphere of camaraderie and sharing. Mark your calendars today for this special CF Conference on September 24th and 25th.
